I will be installing a solar powered attic fan. attic access is through the opening of a 3'x3 'from the garage roof.?

I close this opening to allow ventilation through soffit vents? or maybe keep it open during the winter or summer? opening is on the opposite side of the attic fan. garage is not heated. thanks!

I would like to close the opening when not in use for the attic adequate ventilation as you mentioned are best suited to the needs of Fire Hazard Prevention. The opening should have the same rating as the rest of roof in the normal way to prevent fires from easy access to the attic structure.
