solar power usa 2009

We know that you voted to Earth on Saturday, 28 March 2009 and turned off the lights. We enjoyed the time playing cards by candlelight and of course fortunately survived, although there may be some candle wax on the cards.
Earth Hour was a great opportunity to show our concern for the heating global and get the millions of votes that are waiting to take the Global Climate Climate Change in Copenhagen in 2009. Remember though that during this time also, did not need as much electricity in our homes or places of work and therefore were able to burn fossil fuels and reduce our emissions of CO2.
Assuming that the objective was reached Earth Hour and 1 billion people around the world turned off their lights for one hour, we estimate that around 450 million pounds of carbon dioxide are kept out of the atmosphere, which is the equivalent of taking 350 million cars off the road that time. This is more than the total number of vehicles registered in the U.S..
Because we believe that these savings, we started talking about clean coal. We have heard much about him, especially in energy companies. They suggest that clean coal is a viable solution to global warming energy as any of the natural environment as solar and wind power.
After doing some research here are 7 data on clean coal.
- We all know that coal is a fossil fuel that is used primarily by the energy and utility companies and power plants burned to create steam, which turns the turbines and thereby creates electricity. Burning coal releases CO2 (carbon dioxide) in our atmosphere. You can see what happens of a power plant smoke stack.
- One aspect of clean coal technology is literally washed coal with liquid before burning. This removes unwanted impurities. Wet scrubbers are also used to remove sulfur dioxide (a major cause of acid rain) by spraying coal with limestone and water.
- Clean coal technologies also use nitrogen oxide burners and converting gassification coal-burning gas. This is said to reduce the amount of coal burned.
- Any method used to clean coal is a result CO2 emissions will then be stored.
- The carbon dioxide capture and storage is the technology that the proponents of coal clean seem most excited. They suggest that CO2 emissions can be captured and held outside the atmosphere. The captured CO2 needs to be collected in containers insurance. The CO2 is stored in 2 possible ways. Whether under the soil by injecting CO2 into depleted gas or gas fields and seams, or injection of liquid CO2 in meters from the ocean from 500 to 3000 depth.
- The methods of storage (underground or at sea) must be able to curb emissions CO2 to peak disappear. This will take hundreds of years.
- The environmental effects of all forms of storage are largely unknown. By injecting CO2 into the earth that can cause changes in soil and underground pressure, and by injecting liquid CO2 into our oceans that could harm marine life. Any form of storage has to be carefully prepared and supervised.
Now that we have some facts, we are not convinced. With clean-coal technology, we are taking the burning of coal, CO2 emissions, and pushing the problem under the bed so that can ignore it. Global warming is not "someone elses problem." We need to step now and change the way you create and use energy. Abandoning the idea of clean coal technology and not spend that money for research on solar and wind technologies. Forget about CO2 capture and storage and finance research in battery technology to store natural energy sources available to us.
Of course, you know you can do their part as well. Reduce your waste, recycling everything I can and reuse everything I can.
We still have a long way to go. I found with a friend to catch up on Thursday in a local coffee shop. The coffee shop was packed, with a line out the door, as usual, but unfortunately I was the only customer using my own cup. Everyone was using a paper cup and they all had plastic covers. There is an easy solution to this waste. If you do not have a cup then get one in http://www.gogreenmug.com/ and always remember to bring with you to coffee shops.
