solar energy games

How "sustainable" will the London Olympics, really?
The London bid for 2012 Olympics promised to be the greenest games to date. But it will be delivered? Planning documents and environmental statement for the Olympic Park suggest that energy efficiency requirements beyond current building regulations will be enforced, leaving the building developers to incorporate sustainability measures. Moreover, London 2012, ODA has not released details on their compensation plans for aviation carbon emmisions released travel during the games. Marketing material suggests that the Olympic Park will be powered by renewable energy, while a plant is planning to implement CCHP fossilfuels once again leave application of solar, wind and biogas energy up to the limitations of the developer's construction programs and budget. It seems once again that the British authorities are issuing twist that gives a misleading impression, while missing a unique opportunity to ensure the Games Olympic truly environmentally sustainable.
The carbon offsets during the games is one thing, but is the building that could really make an impact. According to my brother in law, there are posters advertising recruiting university of approximately 7,000 dealers to come to London to work on the project. I wonder if they have plans in place to tackle all the carbon generated through travel. The fact is that big business and sustainability are not the easiest of the bed of the Fellows in the best of times and I have real doubts about the validity of their claims.
