Having a goal of 22% renewable energy use in 2020 in New Jersey Service Electric and Gas Company has embarked on a program to provide third party of that power by assembling panels of solar cells on existing telephone poles. This terrible idea will be funded both by the customers, who pay about 10 cents extra for each bill during the first year, 35 cents a year thereafter, but also connect the panels to the main network and sell excess power in the open market.
Municipal buildings, schools and other institutions throughout the state would also have solar panels on the roof-mounted side. This will an ambitious $ 773 million, but again, cost is expected to be recovered within 15 years or less.
The best part of all this is the number of new jobs created. Estimates for the number of jobs in the hundreds, not just be these good paying jobs will be skilled labor jobs also qualified.
The green part of all this are the elimination of 1.7 million tons of greenhouse gases, which is the elimination of 310,000 cars from the road about a year. That's an amazing statistic about, but that's exactly the type of zero emission technology that bring solar cells.
This catapults New Jersey as the closest state in the Union Solarized, second only to California. But who would have thought that a northern state as it begins from the wholesale conversion to this type of sustainable energy? The truth is that, as solar panels become more efficient, which can now be used in places with lots of sunshine, not like, but still deliver a lot of electricity.
Our hats are off to New Jersey in this, and I bet most states, at all latitudes, will start to follow suit. It just makes much dollars and cents.
