What are the possible alternative energy sources? (State scientific reasons)?

I'm doing a science project for my school, and my project is about alternative energy. A candidate for my project and biomass solar cell, but I want something new and innovative, can you give me suggestions (since I am in Indonesia and you are mostly U.S. and Europe so you can suggest a project that has been done in your school, college, university, etc.) Any help is appreciated.
