How many people are employed in China's coal industry?
I'm writing an article about how renewable energy China's 2007 Law on the employment effect so I have to get a rough estimate of how many people work in the coal industry. By Unfortunately it seems that you can not find employment statistics, statistics only on the number of mines that exist. I have come across the number of 5 million times, but that comes from a book written in 1982 and I imagine that the number has changed since then. If someone could point me in the right direction would be much appreciated.
6.6 million and climbing in 1999, decreasing the last couple of years with the development of alternative energy and demand reduction. More than 7 million be a safe assumption.
