It's only a minute or two, right? Just waiting for her son to leave school or leave the bus. Just a couple of minutes before the ballet class or practice extreme football.
But have you ever added to all the "few minutes?"
Idle engine for five minutes a day waiting to pick up your child at school, multiplied by 180 days in a school year equals 15 hours per year .. Want to leave your car idling outside your house for 15 hours? Now add in the summer camp, football, baseball, ballet, music lessons and the hours the vehicle is idling, wasting gas and The addition to the carbon output increases to 30 hours .. … 45 hours or more per year. And this continues, year after year.
I read a couple of methods different to calculate the cost of all idle:
- The average passenger vehicle, one-fourth to one third of a liter per hour is used
- Two minutes of downtime equals 1 minute of driving the fuel consumption.
Now multiply this by the large number of parents in this country that does this and adds to a pile of barrels of gas and lost a large amount of additional pollution. Can you imagine how much we could reduce our consumption of oil by turning off all the idling cars? We all can help the environment, save money and reduce our oil imports abroad. We would help our country on multiple levels.
Do you really want the air proximal to where your children play to have higher levels dioxide carbon, nitrous oxide and other air pollutants? Remember, what is powering his escape, is walking well and breathing!
There are many myths about running of a vehicle:
- More fuel is needed for starting an engine idling
FALSE
- You need to warm the engine for several minutes to work efficiently,
FALSE 30 seconds will suffice. Nothing else is waste fuel.
- From causes more engine wear than the engine idling
FALSE The wear and tear of an engine starting is minimal. Idle the engine is horribly inefficient and a good way of dirt the engine.
So park your car or van and walk a few meters. Get needed exercise and fresh air to collect their children.
