What is the cost to install solar panels?
I want to install five 200-watt photovoltaic solar panels on the roof of a house in Texas. This is of a link system of the network and all the equipment has been purchased already. I have received two contributions from companies to install solar power and they both want to about 20,000 dollars just to connect the cables. Is this normal? I do not know about Texas but in California, a self-install, does not invalidate the discount. And it certainly does not invalidate the federal tax credit on Form 5695 http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-dft/f5695–dft.pdf. Check out the form and instructions. I have two discounts install myself. Florida requires professional installation for your return, I think. You still must comply with local building codes. What you could do is hire a roofer to put up dividers and panels, and later an electrician to connect it to your service panel. The electrician can run conduit as required. Or you could do the physical work of the placement of the panels yourself, then call the electrician to connect. Just be sure to obtain all necessary permits and inspections. $ 20K is too much for installation only. That should buy a 3 kW system, parts included, installed.
