Have you heard of guardian angels? Many of you have, but I would say no. I applaud this organization and they are actually doing a difference in our streets, our neighborhoods, on the Internet and in our schools. They focus on public safety and education, its members are a diverse mix of All sorts of people of many different kinds of cultural backgrounds. Men, women and children who make up the 138 chapters of the Guardian Angels have a universal goal – To protect people. They believe that everybody has that right and deserves this opportunity.
I have known of the Guardian Angels for a while but was made little I started to understand the scope and importance in relation to what they do. One of the services provided are security patrols. You find security patrols active in many of our cities. Angels are composed of volunteers who devote their time and energy to help protect communities. A unique and interesting approach is the inclusion of youth in the inner city, in these security patrols. Many organizations, if not most, tend to regard the inner city youth, as a problem rather than a possible solution!
The Guardian Angels are many examples of human philosophy that works for youth empowerment and results in community ownership and pride. To lead by example and encourage community members to follow their lead, to take responsibility for cleaning up communities and improve the safety of the street. Our neighborhood watch programs today are the result of Guardian Angel patrols and security!
The Angels believe in education and value as a powerful tool that can change communities and allow people to break the cycle of poverty, drugs and crime. They called an Education Academy and cover a range of topics all related to public safety. Topics covered include Internet safety, gang resistance, violence prevention, bullying, education and security.
Many of the problems facing our youth are the result of our reluctance to participate. Guardian Angels get involved on the ground floor with a focus on education and intervention. Bullying in school is a real problem and thousands of our young Victims are forced to endure this every day. Harassment can lead to many other growing problems, including violence in retaliation with weapons such as knives and firearms. Gangs are recruiting younger and younger people with false promises. Many young recruits have no family structure solid. They have the home environment than most of us get used a. This is where the Guardian Angels do wonderful work. They work tirelessly to break the cycle, to build the structure, helping children to resist and eliminate gang intimidation.
Most of us, myself included should take a page from his book and follow the example of the Guardian Angels in our communities. What kind of difference can we do if we all got involved in some kind community service project related to personal safety? How about a leadership training course or perhaps something related to the free defense and security or first aid.
